Milani Dress Maker. Remember when everyone went 10 sorts of crazy over this polish when it was first released? Those were fun days. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bottle before they were extinct from shelves for the rest of forever. Supposedly a dupe for Chanel Jade (though I can’t vouch for this myself since I don’t own Jade), Dress Maker is a jade-mint green with subtle mint green shimmer. This was three coats. I own about 12 or 13 mint greens but this is definitely one of my favorites. And now that I’m thinking about it, I think it’s the only mint green I own that has shimmer in it… I believe the rest of them are all cremes, making this polish really unique.
Milani Sun Flash. I can’t even tell you how long I’ve owned this polish. 5 years maybe? Maybe even 6? I remember way back when I used to bite my nails I bought this polish. It was summertime and I remember reading in one of the women’s magazines, most likely Cosmopolitan, that hot coral was the “it” pedi color for the summer. I ran my butt to Target and found Milani Sun Flash and bought it since it was the only color remotely close to the hot coral pictures in the magazine. To this day, it remains my favorite coral and one of my favorites to wear in summer. I wish they still sold it but as far as I know, it’s unfortunately been off the shelves for years. Talk about a bummer.
Milani Hi-Tech. The perfect Spring lime-green holo polish. I’ve posted about this polish before but since it’s hot and sunny outside I felt the need to wear something bright and holo and Milani Hi-Tech fit the bill to a tee.
On a side note, what are some of your favorite holo polishes? I feel like I don’t really have to many and I have a strong urge to wear holo polishes right now so if you have any suggestions for either scattered or linear holo polishes please send your suggestions my way!
This is three coats of Essie Marshmallow, one coat of Milani Gems, and one more coat of Essie Marshmallow on top. It’s kind of like a nail polish version of Funfetti icing. I did a pink version of this mani for my birthday last year using OPI Bubble Bath and Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday. I like both versions but I think the pink version had more of a frosting feel… possibly because I prefer strawberry frosting to vanilla.
Some few months back during the summer, Dollar Tree got a ton of old school Cover Girl and Colorama polishes and since it’s rare to find awesome polish for less than a buck, I made sure to pick up a ton. This is one of my awesome scores. Colorama Ruby Rays. It’s a red tinted fairly clear base loaded with duochrome red flakies that change to yellow and green at extreme angles. These Coloramas came in three-packs for a dollar. I bought four. HAHA! And since I’m a fan of dark polishes with glitter and flakies being mattified, I added Essie Matte About You on top.Winner winner chicken dinner. This is two coats of Ruby Rays over Milani Spellbound.
Milani Spellbound is a black jelly base filled with small red glitter. This was released back in 2009 for the Black Magic Halloween collection. This has been one of my all time favorite collections. All of the six polishes were black jelly filled with a single color of glitter. At the time this collection was released, I love them all so much that I bought all of the polishes in the collection except Charmed which is black with silver glitter because I already owned a similar looking Savina polish. I still loved wearing these polishes at Halloween. I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, it doesn’t get much better than black and glitter together.
Obviously you can tell how sheer Silver Shatter is from these pictures. This is the first mani I’ve done with the polish and I decided against using a light creme (like the ones that came along in the same collection) which probably wasn’t the best idea. Almost all the swatches I’ve seen had SS layered over a light creme and it looked gorgeous. I decided to go against the trend and layer mine over Milani Hi-Tech. As you can see, Silver Shatter is so sheer that it appear as a foily-shimmery lime green thats just a few shades darker than Hi-Tech. Even though the contrast between the shatter and the polish underneath isn’t very noticeable I think I still quite like it. Since the combo looks a bit scaley, it kinda reminds me of alligator skin.. if alligator skin were holo and sparklely and turned into an expensive purse.
Apologies again for the lack of posting. I’ve been super swamped with cleaning, unpacking, trying to find a job, applying to jobs, trying to sign up for the GRE before it changes, etc., etc., etc. … I haven’t even had time to change my manis. I’ve been walking around with some seriously jacked up looking manis. It’s pretty sad. Hopefully things will settle down a bit and I’ll have more time to do my nails and post.
Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend!!
